On my previous posts, I made a temperature controller for my brew kettle, and then made it wireless. It took me a fair amount of work, I add to learn how bluetooth worked and how to use Espressif ESP idf libraries for my controller to communicate with my laptop. I coded a small client in python using tkinter gui library, that allowed me to control the target temperature, and set the specific mode on my controller.

On my last post I was describing how I used an Arduino to control the temperature of water in my homebrewing klarstein boiler tank. It is working fine as the temperature control is way better than the stock boiler one… but I needed another project. I wanted to learn how to use an ESP32 chip instead of an Arduino. Upgrading my controller was the perfect fit for that: the ESP32 is a microcontroller that has the specificity of supporting Wifi and Bluetooth!

I have a second hand Klarstein Maischfest 30L brewing tank that I use to brew beer. It is an ok, entry level, electric kettle with 2 x 1500W heating elements and an integrated temperature controller.
The kettle.
However, there is one issue with it, the temperature controller is bad. The way it is working is by turning on heating if temperature is below target minus 3°C, and turn it off when temperature is above target plus 3°C.
